Robert McLeod is a New Zealand painter who grew up in Glasgow and started his art education at the Glasgow School of Art. He came to New Zealand in 1972 and began exhibiting in dealer galleries almost immediately. He has exhibited every year since then in dealer and public galleries, and has paintings in most major collections in the country. An Orange in a Fried Fish Shop collects together recent work, which is considered in relation to the earlier shifts and developments in his practice as a painter. The book has an essay about McLeod's work by Aaron Lister, an independent writer and curator who also teaches in the Department of Art History at Victoria University.
