The TVNZ Kiwi, or Goodnight Kiwi, is a part of New Zealand’s culture and history. Between 1981 and the beginning of 24 hour television broadcasts in 1994, the Goodnight Kiwi marked the station shutdown at midnight. The minute-long animation showed Goodnight Kiwi and his friend the Cat shutting down the television studio, turning out the lights and putting a milk bottle out on the front porch before riding an elevator to bed in a satellite dish.
